Kesher Program
The Hebrew word
kesher means "link" or "bond." Shaaray Tefila's
Kesher program connects synagogue volunteers with Upper East Side elderly residents by delivering holiday packages and establishing personal relationships.
Three times each year, we prepare holiday food packages in assembly-line fashion during an
Oneg Shabbat following a Friday evening service. Volunteers then pick up and deliver the packages to local residents in time for the upcoming holiday (
Rosh HaShanah,
Chanukah and
Pesach). Participants are encouraged not just to deliver the packages, but to stay and chat, bringing a little companionship and a Shaaray Tefila connection to the homebound. High school students and adults are encouraged to participate. Please contact
HGMD@aol.com if you know someone in our area who could benefit from a
Kesher delivery.
