Staffed by volunteers, Shaaray Tefila has run a soup kitchen every Wednesday for over 25 years, serving lunch to more than 100 guests each week. Food is provided through grants and deliveries from The Food Bank for New York City and the NYC-HRA Emergency Food Assistance Program (EFAP) and supplemented by purchases from our bulk suppliers, food donations from local merchants Eli's, Neuman's Catering, Orwasher's, Dallas BBQ, and Alice's Teacup. We also rely upon operations support grants from United Way of NYC and EFAP, as well as congregant financial donations to the Soup Kitchen Fund.
Volunteers are needed to bake desserts for the soup kitchen. These should be nut-free. Please deliver any day to the reception desk in the Temple lobby. Desserts will be frozen and used as needed. Thank you!
