Cantor Emeritus : Cantor Bruce Ruben

 

 Cantor Bruce Ruben was appointed Cantor Emeritus of Temple Shaaray Tefila in June 2006 after 24 years of service. He is now the Director of the School of Sacred Music of Hebrew Union College, a full time position.

He was raised in Portland, Oregon and was ordained at the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York in 1981. In 1997, while at Temple Shaaray Tefila, Cantor Ruben earned a Doctorate in History from the Graduate Center of City University. He has taught Jewish History at HUC-JIR, been on the faculty of the Evening Division of the Juilliard School, and taught at Hunter College.

Cantor Ruben is married to Judith Clurman, a prominent choral conductor and they have a son.
